    Doug Dohring Bio

     

    Doug Dohring founded Age of Learning in 2007, which he led as CEO until 2023.

     

    Based in Los Angeles, Age of Learning is a leading edtech innovator and producer of the multi-award-winning ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy, the leading and most comprehensive digital learning resource for children ages 2–8, as well as Adventure Academy, the first-of-its-kind educational massively multiplayer online game (MMO), serving elementary- and middle-school-aged children, and now My Math Academy and My Reading Academy, adaptive and personalized early math and reading programs that have been proven to help students achieve mastery and teachers accelerate learning.

     

    After Doug Dohring announced the launch of ABCmouse.com in 2010, he and his team of curriculum experts have built the website into an award-winning online provider of early education for kids from 2–8. ABCmouse uses a rich library of interactive games, puzzles, songs, art projects, books, and other activities to engage the youngest learners and help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. ABCmouse also provides supplemental learning to children who are currently attending, preschool, prekindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade. Whether accessed at home or in the classroom, ABCmouse offers more than 850 lessons and more than 10,000 learning activities. Low-cost ABCmouse subscriptions are available for families. 

     

    Age of Learning's Education Access Initiatives offer teachers, libraries, community centers, housing authorities and other community organizations free access to our complete ABCmouse early learning curriculum. ABCmouse.com for Teachers has been used by more than 150,000 teachers per school year.

     

    Age of Learning supports the Invest In US initiative by committing to "provide ABCmouse.com for free to every preschool, Head Start, and kindergarten classroom in the U.S. over the next two years, with a value expected to exceed $10 million." And Age of Learning recently partnered with the ConnectHome initiative to "make its award-winning ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy curriculum available for free to families living in public housing in 27 cities and one tribal nation, serving up to 65,000 children ages 2–7 each year."

    In 2020, Doug and Age of Learning expanded their philanthropic education outreach efforts, launching the Age of Learning Foundation, with Doug Dohring serving as Chairman of the Foundation until 2023.

     

    The work by Doug and the Age of Learning team in creating this world-class educational resource for families and teachers has received numerous awards and accolades, such as Learning Magazine’s Teachers’ Choice Award, the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, the Children’s Technology Review Editor’s Choice Award, the Tillywig Brain Child Award, and the 2015 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and the 2015 Tabby Award and Users' Choice Award for best tablet apps. The team is currently expanding the website’s curriculum to support learning for older children.

     

    An article about Age of Learning by TechCrunch reported that the company "has moved into the billion dollar valuation club on the strength of one highly-grossing, popular app called ABCmouse. The company has quietly raised $150 million at a $1 billion valuation from Iconiq Capital, TechCrunch has learned and confirmed."     In 2019, Doug Dohring announced the launch of Adventure Academy, the first-of-its-kind educational massively multiplayer online game (MMO), serving elementary- and middle-school-aged children. Later in 2019, Doug Dohring spoke at the ASU + GSV Summit about the company’s success, challenges, global expansion, and the impact it is having in children.

    In January 2020 Doug spoke at the Education World Forum and announced the creation of the Age of Learning Foundation, a charitable organization committed to helping children furthest from opportunity build a strong academic foundation by providing access to research-proven educational programs at no cost. Already Executive Chairman of Age of Learning, Doug Dohring was named Chairman of the Age of Learning Foundation. Doug later announced that the Foundation had joined UNESCO's Global Education Coalition.

    In March of 2020, as schools were starting to close because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Doug Dohring and Age of Learning leadership decided to give free access to its learning programs to children affected by school closures, which was announced on the company blog and reported nationwideDoug and the company also worked with UNICEF to provide educational aid globally.

     

    My Math Academy was launched in early 2021 after extensive testing in school settings and conducting rigorous research to validate its efficacy and effectiveness in teaching math
     

    In June 2021, Age of Learning announced that the company had raised $300 million in Series 3 funding, giving the company a $3 billion valuation.

    Doug Dohring founded Age of Learning after five years as CEO and chairman of NeoPets, Inc., which by 2005 had made neopets.com into one of the world’s most popular websites, with an average of more than 5 billion page views per month.
